2012-03-14 Preparatory Course for Expert Witness in the Field of Industrial Undertakings (Course Code: FB88)

This course has been included in the list of reimbursable courses for Continuing Education Fund (CEF) purposes. The CEF Course Code is 25Z03354-A. (Subject to approval, the course will be re-titled to Preparatory Course for Expert Witness and Contractual Liability”.)

Course Objectives:
This course aims at providing formal legal training on both practical and theoretical sides for those appearing before court to give the best-possible expert witness on one hand; and to understand the contractual and statutory liability imposed on them relating to compensation, environmental, safety and health legislation on the other.

Course Contents:
• Hong Kong Legal System
• Law of Tort
• Law of Contract
• Occupier's Liability
• Expert Witness
• Employees' Compensation Ordinance
• Related Environmental, Safety and Health Legislation
• Court Procedures

Meeting Time & Sessions:
• 3-hour lecture (13 sessions) & 3-hour workshop: Wednesdays (6:30 pm - 9:30 pm)

Course Coordinator & Speaker:
• Practising solicitor with LLB, LLM
• PhD in public health

Medium of Instruction:
English supplemented by Cantonese

Target Participants:
Priority will be given to Safety Officer, Safety Auditor, Environmental Protection Officer, Environmental Officer or those holding a position at supervisory and managerial level for contract management in the field of compensation, environmental protection, safety and health.

Certification:
Certificates will be issued to students who have attended 70% or above of the classes and passed the assessment:
• A Certificate of Attainment issued by SPEED
• A Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificate issued by Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the UK upon payment of an application fee

Local Recognition:
Students may apply to departments of the HKSAR Government and other professional institutions for respective CPD hours recognition.
